My Story & Roots
I was born and raised in central Italy, in the land between Frosinone and Monte Cassino — one of the most devastated sectors of the Italian Campaign during the Second World War.
My family has lived on this land for generations. War did not reach us through books or archives, but through lived experience.
On the night of 11 September 1943, the city of Frosinone was bombed for the first time. My father was eight years old. He would always recall that night with the same words:
“It was night, but it was as bright as midday.”
Hundreds of civilians lost their lives in the months that followed. My own family was among those touched by that loss.
My mother was born in September 1944, in a country still in ruins. She is still with me today, having witnessed the long years of reconstruction that followed destruction.
Liberation brought devastation — but also the possibility of renewal.
My work as a historian and battlefield guide grew from this ground. The landscapes I interpret are not abstract locations; they are places shaped by memory, loss, endurance, and reconstruction.
