Private Battlefield Interpretation Across Italy
Today I design and lead private, fully customized WWII battlefield journeys across Italy.
Each itinerary is structured through archival preparation, operational analysis, and direct terrain interpretation. The objective is not simply to visit historical sites, but to understand how the Italian Campaign unfolded across geography.
Current sectors include:
- The landings at Salerno and Anzio
- The German defensive systems from the Volturno Line to the Winter and Gustav Lines
- Monte Cassino and the Liri Valley
- Multi-day Allied operational routes from Salerno to Rome
Structure & Logistics
All tours are conducted in a private, air-conditioned Mercedes van (9 seats) with a professional driver.
The vehicle functions as a mobile interpretive space, equipped with an onboard monitor presenting:
- Archival wartime footage
- Veterans’ interviews
- “Then and Now” battlefield comparisons
- Operational maps and terrain analysis
Travel time is part of the interpretation.
Geography is never background — it is the framework of the narrative.
History is experienced directly on the ground where decisions were made and consequences unfolded.
Why This Work Matters
This is not simply my profession.
It is my way of giving something back — to the veterans who fought for freedom and to the civilians who endured the cost of war.
Memory is not static.
It must be walked, understood, and transmitted.
