Over the years, my research and field expertise have contributed to international documentaries, historical publications, and family-led remembrance projects.
Each collaboration has been rooted in archival reconstruction, terrain analysis, and historical accuracy.
BBC Documentary
My Grandad’s War (2019)
In 2019, I was appointed Historical Consultant for the Battle of Monte Cassino by the BBC for the documentary My Grandad’s War, featuring Gary Lineker.
Through on-site research and analysis of official war diaries, we reconstructed the wartime route of his grandfather, Stanley Abbs, tracing his journey from the landings at Salerno to the fighting at Monte Cassino.
The project helped illuminate the experience of the soldiers of the Italian Campaign — often referred to as the “D-Day Dodgers” — restoring visibility to a theatre of war frequently overshadowed by other fronts.

The Caves of San Pietro
Susan Gayle (2015)
I am featured in The Caves of San Pietro, which recounts the story of American soldier Frank Moster, killed near San Pietro Infine in December 1943.
My research contributed to reconnecting his family with Italian civilians who had known him during the war, creating a bridge between personal memory and documented history across generations and continents.

Lost Between Worlds
Edward Herzbaum
Before the publication of Lost Between Worlds, I guided Edward Herzbaum’s daughter and granddaughter through the Italian locations described in his illustrated wartime diary.
The journey connected intimate family memory with historical context and battlefield geography, grounding narrative in place.

Elizabeth Taylor
British-Polish author Elizabeth Taylor visited Monte Cassino to honor her father and his fallen comrades from Anders’ Army.
Her visit was a tribute to the Polish soldiers who survived deportation, exile, and war — and whose path through Italy remains a central chapter of the European conflict.
