Origins & Historical Ground

I was born and raised in central Italy, in the land between Frosinone and Monte Cassino — one of the most devastated sectors of the Italian Campaign during the Second World War.

My family has lived on this ground for generations. War did not reach us through books or archives, but through lived experience.

On the night of 11 September 1943, Frosinone was bombed for the first time. My father was eight years old. He would always describe that night in the same way:

“It was night, but it was as bright as midday.”

In the months that followed, civilians suffered deeply. My paternal grandmother, Rosa, died on 19 February 1944. My great-grandmother, Maria, was killed on 31 May 1944 — the day before liberation.

My mother was born in September 1944, in a country still in ruins. She is still with me today, a living witness to reconstruction after devastation.

Liberation brought destruction — but also the possibility of renewal.

My work as a historian and battlefield guide grew from this ground. The landscapes I interpret are not abstract locations; they are places shaped by memory, endurance, and rebuilding.

History, for me, is not distant. It is written into terrain.
