FERENTINO, ALATRI AND ARPINO: PRE-ROMAN TOWNS AND FORTIFICATIONS.

The Cyclopean Walls Tour

Discover Ferentino, Alatri and Arpino with an Archaeologist

In the heart of Ciociaria, a region nestled between Rome and Naples, lies a mysterious legacy of ancient civilizations that predates even the Roman Empire. According to Roman mythology, this was the land once ruled by Saturn, the god of time and agriculture, who fled here after being dethroned by Jupiter. Traces of this legendary past are visible in the awe-inspiring cyclopean walls, massive megalithic structures that surround towns like Ferentino, Alatri, and Arpino.

Built without mortar, using enormous blocks of stone fitted with extraordinary precision, these walls remain one of the great enigmas of ancient architecture. Dating back to the 7th century BC—or even earlier—these sites are where history and mythology merge, offering a cultural experience like no other.
