Retracing a Personal Story on the Ground
For many families, the Italian Campaign is not only history.
It is part of their own story.
Helping sons, daughters, and grandchildren retrace the path followed by a father or grandfather during the years 1943–1945 is one of the most meaningful aspects of my work.
These journeys are prepared with care and respect.
Through archival research, war diaries, morning reports, medal citations, and terrain analysis, it becomes possible to identify the sectors, ridgelines, defensive lines, villages, and operational areas where he likely served.
Standing on the ground where he once stood often transforms distant history into something deeply personal.
Every veteran-focused tour is private and individually prepared.
Advance notice is required to allow time for research and historical reconstruction.
Information That Can Help
If you wish to retrace a veteran’s path, please include as much of the following information as possible:
• Full name of the veteran
• Nationality
• Division / Regiment / Battalion / Unit (if known)
• Service number (if available)
• Approximate dates in Italy
• Discharge papers, letters, photographs, or documents (if available)
• Cemetery or memorial information (if applicable)
Even limited documentation can often be enough to reconstruct a meaningful operational path.
If you are unsure about certain details, that is completely fine.
We can work together to clarify them.
Structure of the Tour
Veteran-focused tours are entirely personalized and may take different forms depending on the historical path being retraced.
They may be organized as:
• A focused full-day experience in the Monte Cassino sector
• A two-day operational study (for example, Cassino & Anzio)
• A multi-day journey following the advance from Salerno to Rome
• Extended itineraries following a specific division across multiple sectors
Starting points depend on the historical progression.
For example:
• Cassino-based itineraries typically begin in Cassino
• Anzio-focused tours begin in Anzio
• Multi-day operational journeys often begin in Salerno and follow the historical advance northward
Pick-up can be arranged at:
• Cassino Railway Station
• Anzio Railway Station
• Salerno (for multi-day tours)
• Or at your accommodation / hotel within the tour area
Each itinerary is structured around the veteran’s unit, operational timeline, and geographical movement across the campaign.
On the Ground
All tours are conducted in a private, air-conditioned Mercedes van with a dedicated driver.
The vehicle is equipped with an onboard multimedia system, allowing access to:
• Wartime footage
• Period photographs
• Operational maps
• “Then and Now” terrain comparisons
By the time each site is reached, the historical context is already clear — allowing families to understand not only where their relative was, but why he was there.
